Scientists Discover Deepest Ecosystem on Earth

August 8, 2025

Scientists descended to the bottom of the Kuril-Kamchatka Trench and discovered there the deepest complex ecosystem on Earth, where life thrives. At a depth of about 9500 meters, tube worms, mollusks, and other creatures were found living without sunlight and obtaining nutrients through chemical reactions occurring near fissures. The research was conducted using the submarine 'Fendouzhe', and the expedition included oceanologists from China, Russia, New Zealand, and Denmark.
