Longest Lightning Strike in History Recorded in the US

The longest lightning strike in history, stretching 829 km, was recorded in the US. The megaflash illuminated the sky for only a few seconds over the Great Plains - one of the two places on the planet where such phenomena are possible due to suitable weather conditions only forming there. Interestingly, the record-breaking flash occurred back in October 2017 but was only discovered now while analyzing satellite data.
