Chinese Scientists Develop 360-Terabyte Drives

August 1, 2025

Chinese scientists have made an impressive breakthrough - they have developed disks with an incredible capacity of 360 terabytes. To put this into perspective, just six of these storage devices are enough to record absolutely all the games from the Steam catalog. This storage capacity has been made possible by the innovative technology of 'multidimensional glass storage'. During the manufacturing process, a laser beam writes information directly into a quartz disk, forming nanostructures in which the data is stored. This method provides an inexpensive and durable way to store information, capable of handling any volume of data. However, conventional home drives are currently unable to read these disks due to their high technological complexity.
