China Launches Unified Digital ID System

China has launched a 'unified system of digital identity cards' that allows authorities to track every user. To obtain a unique code for account access, citizens must submit their biometrics, passport data, and other personal information to the state - authentication via Digital ID is currently voluntary, but it will soon become the only way to access any website or application. Every click is tracked and entered into a special government registry: authorities will be able to view all activities of a specific user on the internet at any time.
