A robot surgeon has performed a gallbladder removal operation for the first time without human involvement. The machine from Johns Hopkins University in the USA was trained using videos of other surgeries and eventually managed the task on its own, 'demonstrating the skills of an experienced surgeon'. However, it was not allowed to operate on a living person - for safety, it was tested on pig tissues. Now, there are plans to train the robot for other surgeries, and eventually, it is hoped to test it in real-world conditions.
