For the first time in the world, a heart transplant was conducted in Taiwan without stopping the heart. Typically, the donor organ is placed in a special solution, interrupting blood supply, but the new technique allows it to be artificially supplied with blood throughout the entire process, avoiding tissue oxygen deprivation and reducing the risk of rejection.
