The popular AI startup for shopping, Nate, turned out to be run by hundreds of Filipinos imitating a neural network. Investors poured over $88 million into the idea: you see any product somewhere on the internet, click buy and forget. The AI takes care of the order, fills in the address, and so on. But reality was not so pleasant: in fact, everything was done by hundreds, thousands of outsourced Filipinos, and there was no automation at all. The lie was exposed when the startup ran out of money and began selling assets. There's no need to even imagine the faces of buyers.
