China to pay women marrying before 35
In China, women who get married before the age of 35 will be paid. Authorities in the city of Lüliang will pay 1,500 yuan to couples who are getting married for the first time and where the bride is younger than 35. Starting in early 2025, city authorities will also pay 2,000 yuan at the birth of the first child, 5,000 yuan for the second, and 8,000 yuan for the third. Newborns must be registered in Lüliang. Such measures are being introduced to boost the birthrate. By the end of 2023, China's population had declined by 2.08 million people, reaching 1.409 billion. This is the second consecutive year that the country's population has decreased, noted the agency. Among the reasons cited were a "record low birthrate" and a "wave of COVID-19 deaths".
